I’m avidly following the livestream of OWS and watching out my office window, since things are exploding today. It’s nice that I can work and get paid while people without jobs kind of protest on my behalf. I’m way more on-board with them after the dismantling of Zuccotti Park, but there’s one thing they do that drives me absolutely crazy: they yell at cops about how they’re the 99% too and should disobey orders. Yeah, they are in that economic group, but they have families, they have bills to pay, they need insurance, they need jobs - they can’t just quit or get fired. That’s not how it works. You can’t lose your job in this economy. Now is not the time to make a political statement like that.

I’m all for yelling at cops who are using excessive force. But yelling unprovoked at cops who are just standing around doing their job and trying to get through the day? That’s shitty. A lot of these guys are working triple shifts with little or no rest, and the last thing they want is a smelly unemployed 20-something yelling “disobey your orders!” in their faces. Want police brutality to decrease a bit? Stop being dicks to the police. It’s definitely not everyone doing this, but it’s enough people that it needs to be discussed.
